Definition
The unadjusted market rate at which one currency is traded for another in foreign exchange markets. It is the rate quoted on trading platforms without adjusting for inflation or purchasing power differences.

The nominal EUR/USD rate of 1.0850 is the direct quoted price — the unadjusted market price of one euro in US dollars.
