Goal: do not lock the remaining iron-condor loss ($5.00 − credit, e.g. $0.65 collected → $4.35 still exposed). Move before the IV crush. If the tape rebounds, the future shorts can die cheap. Lucky days make a little. The job is not lose the $4.35.
SPX fills as one ticket. You cannot close today’s puts and then shop tomorrow’s book — the crush (or the bounce) happens in the gap. The put roll is a 4-leg combo (BTC old short put + STC old long put + STO new short put + BTO new long put). Calls may close on the same send (6-leg) or a paired 2-leg. Closing the entire iron condor first locks the loss.
Cost both ways. Every roll spends commissions and width. Score the net (new credit − close debit − fees) against leftover risk. If the best score is a large debit, flatten — do not revenge-roll.
Only while cash is open (8:30–3:00 CT). You cannot move strikes overnight. Have Charles Schwab / thinkorswim and charts up at the open. If we call a shift, you have moments — not a sit-and-watch. Legs eat profit; breaking even is the job. A little green is luck.
This is not the 3:07 fish. Super-Advanced only. Wrong roll can lose more than sitting. Know the legs in and out or do not send.
