In the Asian market China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted his Iranian counterpart in Beijing with the US urging China to press Iran on the Strait of Hormuz. In the US market President Trump has paused the operation to help ships exit the Strait of Hormuz citing progress in Iran peace talks and the conclusion of Operation Epic Fury which began on February 28. This de-escalation removes a key geopolitical risk premium that had been supporting oil and gold while lifting risk assets. SPX closed the session at 7259.22 with the VIX holding at 17.38.
